Form our onboarding meeting, it was highlighted that the entire family believes in the importance of the outdoors for their living. This became the key pillar to the design philosophy on how to approach this project. By utilizing an open U-shaped footprint, we created a central courtyard that blurs the line between the interior and the environment. This courtyard acts as a functional outdoor hub, facilitating a seamless flow throughout the home; creating an experience where the outdoors became natural and integral part of using the home. This design meets Caribbean aesthetics through the use of large-scale glazing and deep cantilevered overhangs, which work together to maximize views while mitigating solar heat gain. We approached the material selection with a focus on 'cultural embodiment'—incorporating textures and warm tones that reflect the vibrance of our region.
